Michel Balagué is based in Berlin since 2005. He has produced and co-produced films by directors such as Hanna Slak, Tamer El Said, Filipa César, Leila Albayaty, Mais Darwazah, and Marcin Malaszczak. Between 2010 and 2015 he was co-director of Mengamuk Films.
Furthermore, Michel has produced art films by Cyprien Gaillard, Terence Koh, Tarek Atoui, Bárbara Wagner/Benjamin de Búrca and many others. Besides these individual collaborations, he was commissioned to make films for international institutions including Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Kunst-Werke in Berlin, Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, The Yokohoma Triennial, and the Cimatheque in Cairo. He also produced films by and with the art curators Hila Peleg and Catherine David.
Michel was selected for the 2014 Emerging Producers Program in Jihlava. He participated in the Studio program of the New Horizons Festival in Wrocław and in the Berlinale Talents 2014 program. He was invited to join different co-production platforms such as FID-LAB (Marseille), Open Doors Locarno, and the Torino Film Lab. For his work as DOP he has won several awards.
Michel is a co-founder of LaborBerlin e.V., an artist run film association for super8 and 16mm practices. He ran numerous film workshops in Berlin, Cairo, Beirut, Budapest and Vilnius, teaching super8 and 16mm techniques, including filming, film processing, editing and projecting.
Koen Claerhout is a producer, art manager and consultant. He holds a Master from the Berlin University of the Arts in Museum and Exhibition Studies (Art in Context) and pursued advanced training as a film producer at Filmhaus Babelsberg.
Together with the curator Hila Peleg he developed and ran the Berlin Documentary Forum at Haus der Kulturen der Welt from 2009 to 2014. As a research and project manager he developed and produced art projects with curators, directors and thinkers such as Okwui Enwezor, Catherine David, Sylvère Lotringer and Harun Farocki. Furthermore, Koen was an advisor to the founding of the film centre Cimatheque in Cairo.
Prior to these engagements, Koen was project manager and assistant curator of the Brussels Biennial 2008. Acting as a key coordinator to this Biennial, he managed collaborations with eight international museums and institutions, hundred artists, and ten curators. Between 2004 and 2007, he worked as curatorial assistant and producer at the theaters Beurschouwburg in Brussels and Hebbel am Ufer/HAU in Berlin.
Unai Rosende is an image post-production specialist born in San Sebastian and based in Berlin since 2013. He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country from where he graduated in 2004 with a specialization in animation and moving images. Before focusing on post-production he worked as a cameraman and editor. In his practice he combines artistic and technical skills doing image retouching, special effects to color correction and animation. Recently he has collaborated with Michel Balagué on films such as as Tamer El Said’s In The Last Days Of The City, Filipa Cesar’s Spell Reel and Hanna Slak’s Rudar.
Gabor Ripli is a Hungarian sound designer. In 2014 he received his Master degree in sound recording and sound design at the Academy of Arts of Novi Sad. Since moving to Berlin in 2015, he has continuously been working with Michel Balagué. Besides his collaboration in feature films he has been involved in many video art projects which make him a versatile and knowledgeable sound editor.
